EQUIFAX DATA BREACH

If you are not familiar with Equifax, it is a consumer credit reporting agency, which collects personal information for reporting services. Recently, Equifax announced a breach that may have affected millions of people. The affects of this breach may result in identity theft, fraudulent transactions, complications when applying for loans or jobs, and much more. However, there are ways to keep you safe and protected in order to avoid and prevent possible impacts.

The breach occurred from mid-May through July 2017 and may have affected more than143 million people in the United States. Personal information that was accessed without authorization which caused the breach included

·       Names

·       Social Security Numbers

·       Birth Dates

·       Addresses

·       Driver’s License Numbers

With this breach, credit card numbers for 209,000 consumer and dispute documents with personal information for 182,000 consumers were also affected. To assist consumers in protecting their sensitive, personal information, Equifax created a website where consumers can see if they were impacted by the breach. The only information you need to complete this process is your last name and the last six digits of your social security number. Once you submit this information, you will receive a message indicating whether or not your personal information may have been impacted.

Below are a few basic tips to help you protect yourself against your personal information being used fraudulently:

·       Don’t respond to email, text or telephone calls asking for personal or financial information

·       Frequently review account activity and immediately report unauthorized transactions

·       Place an initial fraud alert with credit bureaus if fraud has occurred

·       Enroll and opt-in for transaction monitoring

·       Use card on/off switches (if available)

·       Enroll in Verified by VISA/MasterCard Secure Code

Due to the fact that such a large number of people are victims of this breach, Equifax is notifying these consumers whose credit cards may have been affected via postal mail. Be wary of any emails that come from Equifax since they are not using email to notify consumers.

In an effort to protect your accounts, we recommend that you put a password on your allU.S. accounts that will need to be provided for every call/transaction. It is also important for you to update phone numbers and addresses on your accounts whenever necessary in the event that we need to contact you. Here are some resources that may be helpful if you are unsure if you have been impacted by the breach:

Check all of your accounts today and take the proper precautions necessary to keep your information safe or to keep your information from being used any further.  If you have any further questions please contact your member services representative at the allU.S. branch.

allU.S. – Your Most Trusted and Valued Financial Resource

The recent Wells Fargo scandal proves yet again that Americans ought to think twice before trusting their money to the big guys. But let’s face it: that’s not new news.  Consumers already know community banks and credit unions are more ethical and trustworthy than the too-big-to-fail institutions, so this latest scandal probably won’t have a major impact on where you bank.

If you find yourself saying “If only I could get products as good as the ones offered by the big banks at a local financial institution” or “I wish my bank would treat me like a person and not a number”  then maybe it’s time to think about finding a local financial institution like allU.S. Credit Union with stability and personal service that has served our community for more than 66 years.

We know that you’ve been reading the headlines about failing banks and financial institutions like Wells Fargo that are less than ethical. We know all the news can be disheartening and even somewhat scary, but we want to assure you that allU.S. is safe, secure and stronger than ever.

How did we stay so strong?

  • We put our members’ financial well-being first, and we pride ourselves on being highly prudent with our members’ money.
  • As a member-owned institution, our decisions are made right here – not out of town or out of state.
  • We offer members secure access to their accounts, no matter when or where.  If you’re connected to the internet, you’re connected to allU.S with our free, fast and secure online banking.
  • We offer competitive rates and lower fees, quality and value.
  • We serve the community and are totally focused on people
  • Encourage life long savings habits in a culture of spending
  • Value cooperation over competition and members over profits
  • We invest in our homegrown industries, products, services and jobs

So, despite these challenging times in our banking industry, allU.S. has never been stronger. The singular focus is and will be that of providing the best possible service to our members.  Clear strategic objectives for growth and service have been developed to position your credit union to provide exceptional service to members. Technology infrastructure and operational enhancements have been instituted to support member expectations and financial discipline to ensure safety and soundness. For us, that’s business as usual. And if you bank with us, it’s business as usual for you, too!

Thank you for your continued support and patronage of allU.S. Credit Union.  We look forward to serving you and your neighbors for many years to come.

Moving a Hop, Skip & A Jump Away

Celebrate International Credit Union Day with allU.S. Credit Union.

Credit union members around the world will celebrate International Credit Union Day®, an annual event to commemorate the credit union movement’s impact and achievements.

Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives that provide an effective and viable alternative to for-profit financial institutions for over 217 million members in 105 countries worldwide. Worldwide, 57,000 credit unions exist to serve their members, providing a safe place to save money and access affordable loans. For over 64 years allU.S. Credit Union has been investing in the future of Monterey County.  They are a credit union that is all about personal service and helping families navigate their financial needs.  At allU.S. Credit Union you are a member not a customer.  We believe that when it comes to the way we serve and interact with our members, everything matters.

To celebrate International Credit Union Day with our members we are hosting a coloring contest for kids under 12 throughout the month of October.  Anyone interested in participating can obtain a coloring page from our website, (alluscu.com/coloringcontest.cfm) or in our branch at 20 W. Market St. in Salinas.  All artwork must be completed and returned by 10/31/2015.  Three winners will be selected from all entries on 11/1/15.  The winners will win one of three cash prizes ($35, $25 and $15).  All entries will be posted in the branch and highlighted on social media throughout October.

Since 1948, International Credit Union Day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October. Each year, the international event affords the opportunity to remember credit unions’ proud history and promote awareness of and support for the credit union difference. This year’s theme, “People Helping People®,” embraces the longstanding credit union philosophy.

Credit unions are recognized as a force for positive economic and social change and have provided significant value in both developed and emerging nations. International Credit Union Day is sponsored by World Council of Credit Unions, the international trade association and development agency for credit unions, as well as numerous national credit union trade associations and federations around the world.

On Oct. 15, credit unions from around the world will join forces to celebrate the day with membership drives, contests and fundraisers to help out their local communities. Credit unions will share their activities with the global community on social media using #ICUDay.

Annual Update From The CEO

At allU.S. Credit Union we understand that no two people are the same and neither are their financial circumstances. It is our job to listen and offer solutions that make sense for you and your family. We have resisted the tight credit mentality and are saying “YES” when others may be saying “NO.”

Daily we hear from our neighbors who could not obtain a loan elsewhere and allU.S. was able to help. This year we helped members with medical bills obtain loans that they could not get anywhere else, provide financial relieve to obtain medical procedures to improve their quality of life and work out solutions to pay back taxes. Our philosophy is simple; we take applications from anyone who wants to be considered for a loan. We view each and every member as an individual. We take pride in providing financial solutions, not just lending money. This philosophy is one that you can be proud of; your credit union will continue to focus on granting credit and providing financial solutions for our friends and neighbors.

Let us assure you, the singular focus is and will be that of providing the best possible service to our members. Clear strategic objectives for growth and service have been developed to position your credit union to provide exceptional service to members, technology infrastructure and operational enhancements to support member expectations and financial discipline to ensure safety and soundness.

The foundation for growth and service excellence will be put in place when we relocate to North Main Street at year end.  We will improve the security of our staff and membership by leaving the Market Street location as well as provide additional accessibility and convenience to existing and new members.

Our belief is that everyone should be a member of a credit union and that allU.S. is the best of all. That belief is affirmed, as we have had the opportunity to work closely with a committed and member-focused staff.

As members, you can choose from the products and services that provide value to your financial life. And you can be proud of our community engagement and corporate citizenship that have long been a part of our culture. We will continue to stay true to who we are and where we came from.

We want to ensure more people have the opportunity to experience the allU.S. difference. We encourage you to invite others to join so they, too, may become part of the credit union family. We are grateful to the members of allU.S.’s Board of Directors for the confidence they have placed in us. We appreciate the support and hard work of the entire credit union staff, as they work diligently to fulfill our mission, to be our members’ most trusted and valued financial resource.

Thank you for your continued support and patronage of allU.S. Credit Union. We look forward to serving you for many years to come.

There are some hidden benefits too. Online banking helps you learn how to manage your money and observe your spending patterns.

  • Online banking allows you to watch your money on a daily basis.  By keeping close tabs on your funds, you’ll always be aware of what’s happening in your bank account.
  • For those experienced spenders, this option is far more appealing than the sudden discovery that you’re broke!
  • It’s also helpful to watch how much interest you’re gathering on investments and savings or what service charges you have incurred.
